What is cylinder deactivation technology?
Cylinder deactivation technology was first used by General Motors in their 6.0 liter V8 engine. However, at that time the use of this technology started causing many problems in the cars, due to which the company stopped making such cars. However, several years later, after improving the cylinder deactivation technology, Ford Motors launched the first car equipped with this technology in the year 2005 and that car was very much liked by the customers.

Cylinder deactivation technology is used in cars with 4, 6 or 8 cylinder engines. To save fuel, the engine of the car shuts down two out of four cylinders. On the other hand, in 6 cylinder cars, 3 and in 8 cylinder cars, 4 cylinders are made and save fuel. Cylinder deactivation is triggered when the car is traveling at a speed lower than a specified limit. The car does not require much power when driving at low speeds, in which case the cylinder deactivation gets activated automatically.

Volkswagen and Skoda cars are equipped with this
Car manufacturers like Volkswagen and Skoda are using this technology in their new cars. recently launched Volkswagen Virtus And the Skoda Slavia gets cylinder deactivation technology in the 1.5-litre TSI engine. Both the cars give a mileage of 18-19 km/l.
