Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi plans to increase sales through retail stores in India. The company has been focusing on e-commerce websites for years. The company believes that there is less competition in these products. Difficulties are increasing for Xiaomi’s business in India. The company is facing challenges like loss of market share and regulatory strictures. Xiaomi has decided to restructure its unit in the country. Because of this, workers are also being retrenched from the company.

According to a media report, Xiaomi had around 1,500 workers in the country earlier this year. The company has recently laid off around 30 workers. It may retrench again soon. The market share of the company has decreased in the last few months. Because of this, it is taking measures like better utilization of its resources and reducing expenses. The company is also suffering due to low presence in the category of affordable smartphones.
