New Delhi. The Central Government has made changes in the FAME II scheme started to promote electric vehicles. These changes will come into effect from June 1. Under the new changes, the 40 percent subsidy available on buying an electric two wheeler has been reduced to 15 percent. Under this, the subsidy of 15,000 available on every kWh battery has been reduced to 10,000.
This means that if the showroom price of an electric scooter is Rs 1 lakh, then earlier you used to get a subsidy of up to Rs 40,000. That means you had to pay insurance and RTO charges for 60 thousand rupees and above. Now a discount of Rs 15,000 will be available instead of Rs 40,000 on a vehicle worth one lakh. For the car, you will have to pay Rs 75,000 and above that you will have to pay insurance and RTO charges.

But if you want to buy an electric scooter cheaply, then you can buy an EV till May 31 according to the earlier subsidy. After that, if you buy an electric scooter, then you may have to pay several thousand rupees for the vehicle. However, this rule will only apply to electric two wheelers. The subsidy on cars will remain intact.
Let us tell you that in order to promote the construction and manufacturing of electric vehicles in India, the government had started the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicle ie FAME II scheme in 2019. Under this scheme, 10 thousand crores was announced for subsidy. Its purpose was to create demand for electric vehicles in the country.
According to the report of Bhaswati Guha Roy of news18 English, the effect of reducing subsidy can have an impact on the sale of electric 2 wheelers. Because this will make electric scooters expensive. According to the report, in comparison to April 2022, there has been a decline of 21 percent in the overall sale of electric vehicles in April 2023. Despite this, the demand for electric 2 wheeler and electric 3 wheeler vehicles remains. The sale of 2 wheeler and 3 wheeler vehicles is 90.48 percent in total electric vehicles.
UP, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Gujarat are leading in India in terms of EV adoption. At the same time, according to the vehicle portal, about 39,000 electric vehicles have been sold so far in May.
