New Delhi. BSNL customers will not have to wait much longer for 4G (BSNL 4G) service. BSNL’s 4G services will start in the country within two weeks. BSNL will initially start 4G network with 200 sites. After three months of trial, BSNL will start its 4G services at an average of 200 sites per day. Union IT and Communications Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has given this information. Vaishnav was talking to reporters after inaugurating 5G service in Gangotri along with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
According to a Moneycontrol report, Vaishnav has told that BSNL will upgrade the 4G network to 5G by December this year. Vaishnav said, “We have developed 4G-5G telecom stack in India. The deployment of these stacks has started with BSNL. It has been deployed at 200 sites between Chandigarh and Dehradun and will go live within the next maximum two weeks.”

Big contract given to TCS
BSNL has awarded a Rs 19,000 crore contract to Tata Consultancy Services and ITI Limited to provide 4G network at more than 1.23 lakh sites across the country. For BSNL’s 4G network, TCS will look after the installation and maintenance work at one lakh sites across the country. Vaishnav said that the speed with which the 4G network will be deployed will surprise everyone. BSNL network will initially work like 4G. Around November-December, it will become 5G with very minor software adjustments.
5G service started on October 1
Prime Minister Narendra Modi started 5G service in the country on October 1, 2022. In the first five months after the launch, 5G services were commissioned at one lakh sites in the country. Ashwani Vaishnav said that by December 31, 2023, we had targeted to provide 5G service at about 1.5 lakh sites and so far service has been started at 2 lakh sites. It is expected that by December 31, 5G service will be available at 3 lakh places.
