Mahindra & Mahindra recently announced an investment of Rs 10,000 crore for electric vehicles. Which has now been approved by the Maharashtra government under the EV Industrial Promotion Scheme.
Now the company will set up a new plant for electric vehicles which will be built in Pune, Maharashtra, where the automaker plans to manufacture its upcoming Born Electric Vehicle (BEV).

Through this plant, Mahindra’s Born Electric SUV will be produced in future. Talking about the announcement, Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director, Auto and Farm Sectors, Mahindra & Mahindra said, “We are delighted with this approval from the Government of Maharashtra to set up our EV manufacturing plant in Pune and look forward to investing are doing.
We are very grateful to the Government of Maharashtra for their continued support. Government’s focus on ‘ease-of-doing-business’ and progressive policies, along with Mahindra’s investment, will act as a catalyst for Maharashtra to become the EV hub of India, attracting further Indian and foreign direct investments. “
Mahindra will invest Rs 10,000 crore within seven to eight years and use it to develop a new range of BEVs. The new EV range will be based on the INGLO EV platform and will house the XUV brand as well as electric SUVs under the new standalone electric sub-brand ‘BE’.
Mahindra has also inaugurated its new Design Center of Excellence, Mahindra Advanced Design Europe (MADE), which will serve as the conceptual center for the company’s portfolio of EV products. In its filing, Mahindra said, MADE’s primary objective is to develop electric vehicles as per global standards that will be made available in India as well as overseas markets. This design center will support Mahindra’s design center located in Mumbai.
