American electric car maker Tesla has started talks with the central government on an investment proposal to set up a factory in India. The annual capacity of the company’s factory will be around five lakh units. The prices of the company’s India-made electric cars can start from Rs 20 lakh.

Earlier, Musk could not meet his deadline to bring fully autonomous self-driving vehicles. “I think we’re very close to achieving full self-driving without human supervision,” Musk said in his address via video link to a conference on artificial intelligence in Shanghai, China. He had admitted that his forecast about the previous deadline for launching this technology was wrong. Musk said, “I think we’re closer to it this time than we’ve ever been.” China is the biggest market for Tesla. Recently the company had told that it would set up a second big factory in Shanghai. Vehicle deliveries grew 83 percent in Tesla’s second quarter. The company has cut vehicles several times in the last few months.
