Manual focus lenses can focus up to 113 millimeters at 2x magnification, 137.8mm at 3x, 162mm at 4x and 186.4mm for 5x. Magnification can be controlled by rotating the barrel of the lens, which extends it from a range between 102mm and 174mm. The lens barrel is marked with 0.5x increments from 2x up to 5x.

This is not unusual for macro lenses, but it can be problematic in some workflows.

The lens has an aperture control ring that can be clicked to adjust the aperture from f/2.8 up to f/16. The minimum aperture is f/16, which can have an impact on the depth of field.

AstrHori, however, explains that “With a focal length of 25mm it can obtain an increased depth of field than similar macro lenses at a same magnification. This can reduce the amount of photos taken in depth-offield synthesis [making] it efficient.”

AstrHori basically says that the 25mm f/2.8 is a wider depth of field than most macro lenses. These are usually at least 50mm, and sometimes 105mm, or longer. This means the photographer needs to take fewer photos for a focus stack. At least, it makes sense. Since the lens has a manual focus, the auto focus stacking feature available on many mirrorless cameras will not work.
