The Alfa Romeo Giulia could be revived as an electric vehicle capable of generating up to 1000bhp and the range is 435 miles according to the Italian company’s chief executive Jean-Philippe Imparato has confirmed.
It is set to evolve from its saloon-like design to encompass a variety of segments, the Giulia is slated to be the next Giulia is expected to launch at the mid-point of this decade. It will stop more offering ICE power, as Alfa Romeo pushes to offer an exclusively electric range in 2027.
The power will begin at around 345bhp. The more robust Veloce offering 790bhp. A ferocious Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifolio model is also confirmed, delivering “around 1000hp” (986bhp) nearly more than the 503bhp available by the current twin-turbocharged petrol V6 vehicle.
The most powerful version will most likely be a 4-wheel-drive option, not rear-driven as the current model. It may be set up like fellow Stellantis brand Maserati’s forthcoming Granturismo Folgore, which uses three electric motors located in the front, and two in the rear with torque-vectoring capabilities.
In addition to affirming his power plans to power as well as confirming his power ambitions for Giulia substitute, Imparato suggested that the electric vehicle’s range could be as long as 435 miles using the WLTP cycle, meaning that the owners will consider it an “substitute” to their current automobiles, not a reduction or forced switch.
This figure is comparable to the electric version of Peugeot’s sibling brand 3008 which is an adapted version of the STLA platform.
Imparato was quick to stress the importance of an immediate electrification plan for Alfa. “We switch because we must,” he stated. “If not, Alfa Romeo would be dead.”
He also said: “We will switch in the real-time replacement mode. I don’t want you [owners/customersto be suffering any loss due to the switch. I’d like for you to enjoy the switch.”
In terms of design in terms of design, the Giulia will be “the Alfa Romeo we all want” according to the CEO who described the latest concept designs in terms of “very cool”.
He has previously stated to Autocar that the successor to the current Giulia would have a more typical shape, and could even cross the saloon estate boundary in the hope of attracting buyers.
Imparato has also confirmed that the Giulia will be fitted with an electrical structure of 800V similar to other upcoming EVs that are built on the STLA platform. This means that the “substantial” battery top-up (likely 10-80 percent) can be done “within 18 minutes”.
There is no confirmation yet on the battery size the new Alfa might use, however Peugeot’s most recent Inception coupe concept included 100 kWh inside its chassis, giving it an approximate range of 500 miles so the Giulia may be able to run on the same battery.
Imparato Also updated Autocar on the future plans of Alfa and revealed that an SUV in the B-segment (tipped to be named the Brennero) is expected to be released in the coming year as its first electric vehicle, but it will continue to provide ICE power as an engine that is mildly hybrid. It’s unclear if the petrol engine will be restricted to international markets, like the case with the similar Jeep Avenger.
The first Alfa electric vehicle will be available one year later, either a saloon or SUV (Imparato will not divulge the details of which) Then, there will be another electric car that will also be in the same space, but with a completely different design.
It’s possible that an electric replacement to the Stelvio SUV is expected to arrive in 2026, as a companion vehicle to electric Giulia.
A larger electric saloon that is in the style that of Porsche Taycan or Tesla Model S will be available in 2027, which is a significant step to increase its popularity in the US as well as China.
