BSNL introduces 200 4G sites in Punjab, Jio and Airtel will get tough competition

State-owned telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has introduced 4G network sites in Punjab. BSNL is setting up 4G network sites in Amritsar, Ferozepur and Pathankot etc. in Punjab. The new network sites were introduced through a consortium led by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) as part of extended field trials following Proof of Concept (PoC). Last month, Mumbai-based TCS was approved for a proposal to set up, operate and maintain 1 lakh 4G sites across the country.

BSNL had issued an Advance Purchase Order (APO) worth over Rs 15,000 crore to TCS and ITI Limited for 1 lakh 4G sites. Out of the total sites, 20 percent will be set up by ITIs. According to media reports, BSNL’s 4G network will be launched on a large scale from October, which is expected to be completed in 12 months.

Earlier this week, BSNL’s network team along with TCS and radio equipment provider Tejas Network met to chalk out a strategy and discuss the rollout timeline. Union Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had said in April that BSNL has started deployment of 200 towers based on domestic telecom stack as a part of field trials.

Vaishnav had said that a plan has been made to start BSNL’s 4G sites faster in August. He said that the ongoing live testing is based on actual customers. Last year, the Indian Telecom stack setup for the BSNL 4G network was tested for 10 million simultaneous phone calls. This 4G launch of BSNL has come when India’s leading telecom companies Reliance Jio And bharti airtel They are running with the target of completing 5G coverage across India within a year. The telecom company expects that the revenue will increase by 20 percent with the full launch of its 4G service.
