Seat’s spinoff brand Cupra has unveiled a two-door digital concept car called the DarkRebel. It hints at an all-electric halo that could become a reality within the next decade.
DarkRebel, which was first shown in holograms during the launch of Cupra Tavascan can be configured and explored through Metahype. This is Cupra’s space in the Metaverse.
“The CUPRA DarkRebel represents the culmination of our vision”, said the CEO Wayne Griffiths of Cupra.
It is a striking car, with its sharp lines, aggressive face and proportions that combine a sportscar with a shooting brake. The concept looks like a classic sports vehicle thanks to the long bonnet, the cabin pushed back towards the rear and the cabin.
To emphasize the sporty aspect of the DarkRebel concept, a spine connects the front to the rear, giving it a similar look to the Bugatti Chiron and Veyron.
According to an official press release, the interior of the new digital vehicle features “progressive bucket seats” and a “progressive steering wheel and shifting system that gamifies the driving experience and connects both the driver and the machine.”
It was created with younger people in mind, as its presence on the metaverse is more than likely to have been designed for those under 30.
According to the press release, Cupra’s Hyper Configurator allows users to customize the concept according their preferences.
- Exponential Square: Where the Cupra Tribe lives the raw value CUPRA design.
- Exponential Cube: Where you can get a soft corner for the racing world.
- Exponential infinite : The highest level of exponentiality is a complete disconnect from reality, embracing a surreal, dreamlike universe, free from physical constraints.
All of this sounds futuristic. But, considering the track record of the brand, which was formerly a sporty trim for seat models we may just see it transformed into a vehicle that is ready for the roads, though with a much more tame design.
Cupra isn’t saying anything about the drivetrain. However, given that the DarkRebel could one day be the brand’s flagship car, it’s reasonable to expect more power and all-wheel-drive than the Cupra Tavascan VZ which has 335 bhp and 500 pound feet (679 Newton metres) of torque.
