Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharam has approved the proposal to impose 22 percent compensation cess on Multi Purpose Cars (MUV) in the council meeting. The GST Council, in its December meeting last year, had cleared the ongoing objection on the definition of SUV, XUV and MUV. The committee had clarified that sedan cars will not be included in MUV cars, so increasing the cess will not affect their price.

It was decided in the council meeting that cars which are more than 4 meters in length, using an engine with a capacity of more than 1500 cc and having a ground clearance of more than 170 mm will attract 22 per cent compensation cess. . Although sedan cars have not been included in these.

50th meeting of GST Council
This meeting held on Tuesday was the 50th meeting of the GST Council. It was presided over by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. In a tweet, he said that in the 49 meetings held so far, the GST Council has taken more than 1,500 decisions in the spirit of cooperative federalism.
