Less than seven hours after the app went live, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg launched Threads Post Said that more than 10 million (1 crore) users have already signed up to use the app. This is because Instagram has over 2.35 billion monthly users. If you have received a notification from the Instagram app that your friends have joined Threads, here is all you need to know about the platform.
How to sign up for Threads on Instagram?
You can sign up for Threads by downloading the app from the Google Play Store or App Store. After opening the app, you will be asked to sign in using your Instagram account, after which your username and verification status will be stored, which means Meta Threads intends to integrate with Instagram.
If you don’t have the Instagram app installed, you’ll need to enter your username and password to proceed. You can then see a list of people you follow on Instagram and you can follow them in Threads as well. If you click the follow button for a user who hasn’t created a profile, Threads will hold the request to follow the user until the user joins the threads.
How to post on Threads and character limit
As you start following people on threads, you’ll notice that the feed is also showing posts from unknown users. Instagram head Adam Mosseri said these are recommended posts, which will be shown by Instagram’s algorithms and help you discover new accounts to follow on the platform. Meta is also working on adding a followers-only feed, which will only show posts from users you follow.
According to Meta, you can post up to 500 characters on the app. This is much more than the default 280 characters available to users who are not subscribed to Twitter Blue. These can be cross-posted to your Instagram Story. According to the company, you can also add links, photos and videos to your posts. The Threads feed displays images in a carousel format.
Blocking or controlling connections in Threads
Users and accounts you have blocked on Instagram will remain blocked on threads. The app will also give you the feature of hiding specific replies from users on your posts. The ability to hide replies can come in handy for users facing trolling or harassment targeting on the platform. Threads also lets you limit or completely disable replies and mentions of people you follow.
You can also filter certain words from appearing in your feed. Meta also says that the Instagram Community Guidelines governing the photo and video sharing service will apply to threads as well.
