The visibility of the bike is maintained by the headlights being always on.
The always on headlight does not affect the battery and mileage.
Many bikes are now coming with LED DRLs as well.
Why Bike Headlights Are Always On: You must have seen that in a new bike or scooter, the headlight turns on as soon as the vehicle starts. There is no switch to turn it off either. For this, people are getting separate switches installed. This change has been made in vehicles after April 1, 2017. Now the light in vehicles can be changed to high or low beam, but now there is no option to turn it off completely.
This is because of the changed rules by the government. Some people install an aftermarket switch to turn off the light because they believe that by doing so the battery will be saved from discharging but it is against the rules. At the same time, many people also believe that the mileage of the bike also reduces due to the headlights always being on. However, the truth of both these claims of the people is something else.

What are the benefits of having the headlights always on?
The Union Transport Ministry had recommended the introduction of the Automatic Headlight On (AHO) feature in view of the increasing number of two-wheelers involved in road accidents. The main purpose of the always-on headlight was to increase the visibility of the two-wheeler on the roads. Actually, in many countries of America and Europe, this rule has been in force for many years to increase the visibility of vehicles. Due to this, there has been a huge reduction in road accidents due to low visibility.
This is the main reason behind the introduction of automatic headlight on feature in two wheelers in India as well. Actually, the visibility of small vehicles on the road is less. In such a situation, if the vehicle is coming from far away, then it is not detected. At the same time, due to bad weather or fog on the road, small vehicles are not visible at all. In such a situation, the possibility of collision of vehicles increases. However, if the headlight of the bike is always on, then its visibility remains and can be seen from a distance as well.

Does the battery get damaged?
Many people believe that the bike with AHO consumes more battery because the headlight is always on. Due to this, the battery starts deteriorating quickly and it has to be changed again and again. However, experts believe that keeping the headlights on all the time on a bike with AHO does not affect the battery.
Advance battery technology and alternatives are being used in the new bikes of today, due to which the battery does not get affected even when the load increases. The AHO system, on the other hand, does not affect the mileage of the bike. Now many bikes have started coming with LED DRL in which the always on LED light is replaced by the always on LED light. They consume less power than headlights and can be seen from a distance.
