What is it exactly?
A revolutionary Raging bull. Lamborghini often felt like the final dinosaur, roaring in despair at the meteoric rise of electric. No more. The Revuelto is a new car that has been adapted to the climate. Lamborghini’s largest beast, the Aventador, has been replaced by a hybrid plug-in. Three electric motors are included. It has no reverse gear. The handling and electrical integration are also much more sophisticated. The gearbox does not thrash your head around like a metaller in the mosh pit. The cabin is more spacious and the seats no longer look like church pews, but rather embrace and coddle.
You didn’t like Aventador or any of its descendants?
It was an anachronism, but we did it. The drama was brilliant, but it came at the cost of talent. The rock band had the volume, the attitude and the look but lacked harmony. Although not the V12. Lambo’s limited edition Sian was the closest to a nod to the future. It included a super capacitor to give the transmission traction and smooth the gear changes.

Looks haven’t changed the game much, haven’t they?
We agree with you on the shape and profile. When we first saw the Revuelto, it was obvious that it was a Lamborghini. It didn’t really surprise us or shock us. The amount of black space in the front is also unconvincing, but more so because of the radiators.
What drama? What is the impact? It’s not an elegant or sophisticated shape. It’s a route one Lamborghini. The detailing is even more impressive up close. You’ll spend hours admiring this car. The V12 is open to the elements, as are the side intakes with their lightning bolt profiles, and the signatures of the lights. However, the proportions are slightly different. The Aventador had more visual mass in the rear, while the Revuelto has a less tail-heavy design.
Does that mean there are some technical changes under the surface?
Today, you are on point. The cabin has 84mm extra length for the occupants. This is because the gearbox that was longitudinally mounted between the seats of the longitudinal V12 since the Miura transverse engine has now been mounted transversely on the rear of the engine.
It’s a brand-new eight-speed dual clutch, not the old ISR single shaft transmission that was dated even at the time the Aventador launched in 2011.
One electric motor is enough?
There are two, one on each wheel. The battery packs are 3.8 kWh (yes, they’re tiny, about half the size as the packs on the Ferrari GTB and McLaren Artura). They sit in the place where the gearbox was. It takes about 30 minutes to charge the battery using a 7kW household supply. Fast charging is not supported because it requires a DC inverter, which adds to the weight. It can also be recharged by regen-braking, or the V12; either one will give you 6-8 miles. The front wheels are only powered by electricity, so there is no need for a bulky mechanical 4WD connection or diffs. Just cables and pure torque-vectoring. Each motor is 18.5kg in weight and produces 148bhp.
That’s almost 450bhp in electric power! What is the V12’s power?
The battery isn’t able to provide enough electricity in an instant, but the motors are able to help the V12 with 187bhp.
The gearbox has been repositioned and weighs only 193kg, making it lighter and faster than that of the Huracan.
The electric motor is never used to support the main event. You can choose to run silently, but that’s not the main goal. The main goal is not compromised, namely to worship the V12 and put it on a pedestal.
We were worried that Lamborghini wouldn’t be able to handle the complexity and integration of a plug in hybrid, as its Aventador had a comparatively crude 4WD system. As you can see in the Driving section of this magazine, the Aventador has made a huge leap forward.
Let’s geek it up, buddy! Let’s me know some facts.
Keep it tight. The Revuelto’s chassis is a “Monofuselage” – a carbon tub 10 percent lighter and 25 percent stiffer than the Aventador, with torsional rigidity of 40,000Nm/degree. The front subframe is made of carbon, which absorbs twice as much energy as the Aventador. Meanwhile, the rear frame, though still aluminium, has fewer welds.
The chassis is semi-active, the braking system is carbon ceramic, with front brakes that have 10 pistons and grab 410mm discs. Rear brakes are four pistons and grab 390mm discs. There’s also regenerative brakes.
Aerodynamics includes an active rear wing which can be controlled manually by a knob located on the steering. The steering wheel has been redesigned and now includes tactile knobs to change between driving modes, such as City, Strada Sport, Corsa and EV settings, including Recharge, Hybrid, and Performance. There are 13 dynamic settings available when you combine them.

All this technology comes at a price: weight. Lamborghini claims dry weight of 1,772kg. This means that fluids will add over 1,900kg. It’s , not too far from a Veyron. It’s not noticeable when you accelerate, but it is under braking.
What competitors should be on the lookout for?
Artura, 296GTB are both mentioned here but they actually belong to the next division. Ferrari SF90 is the main rival. Ferrari’s first hybrid car arrived in 2020, and the decision to replace the V12 with a twin turbo V8 was controversial. The car has three electric motors and no reverse gear. It can go from 0-60mph in 2.5 seconds, with a small battery, and clever torque vectoring. Ferrari was the first to prove that the technology could be made to work. Although the 296GTB outperformed it, there is now a XX version which is (vastly) more expensive.
In the past, Prancing Horses would drive faster than the Raging Bulls on the other side of the road. This is no longer true. It rides well and steers with ease on the broken British roads.
Other things to consider? McLaren’s 750S is as fast as this, despite having 250bhp less. It’s also half a ton lighter. It’s just a re-vamped 720S. We’re waiting to see what hybrid technology will bring beyond the Artura. This car is a bit slower than the Bugattis, Bugattis, GMAs, and Paganis of this world.
What is the verdict?
The hybrid’s only purpose is to encourage and support the V12 masterpiece.
The Revuelto is a car that feels natural to drive. It’s also incredibly exciting. The 6.5-litre V12 engine is still loud and dramatic, and the hybrid only serves to enhance and support that.
The Revuelto is a refined car that has never been seen before from Lamborghini. It’s more harmonious, its suspension is softer, and it’s easier to drive. The interior is also larger, and the seats are better (finally!). It has a lot of useful storage and loading bays.
Lamborghinis seem to look backwards and pining for glory days gone by. Here’s a car that embraces the future and looks to the future. It’s true that it has a small battery and a limited electric range, but it doesn’t do anything new. It is a shining example for Lamborghinis. It also proves that hybridity doesn’t mean charisma is diminished. Congratulations, Lambo.
